What can I substitue for dry white wine in a marinade?

August 28th, 2008

I want to make sage pork chops and my marinade calls for dry white wine. I'm 19 and live alone so I need something that I can legally purchase at the store to use instead. Any ideas?

You can get non-alcoholic wine, or theres all kinds of cooking wines that anyone can buy. You could also use cooking sherry or lemon juice.

    cider vinegar
    chicken stock
maybe soy sauce (depending upon what else is in the marinade– dont' want it too salty)
    or, just leave it out.

Buy some 'rice wine vinegar' or some white wine vinegar, but use only 1/2 as much and add the same amount of water as vinegar.

You can buy white cooking wine in the grocery store. You can be of any age to buy it.

not really sure. I would ask someone who is of age.

Idk some sort of vinegar might work. They do make red wine vinegar.

I don't think you can even purchase cooking wine, but I know for a fact you can purchase white wine vinegar. Vinegar makes an excellent marinade. Also, don't underestimate the acidity of fruit juices like sparkling nonalcoholic wine. Other recipes can go well with orange, white grape juice, apple juice, lemon juice, lime juice, etc.

Just remember that the acid in a marinade is what helps soften and break down the meat. Alcohol is not required.

Don't buy cooking wines…they are full of salt!!

Try the wine vinegars, or plain apple or white grape juice should do….maybe a mix of the vinegar and juice!

Use white wine vinegar. Not the same alcoholic content but has some bite. You can also use nonalcoholic wine.
